See Description
Toronto, Ontario
Summer, Internship, Student Jobs, Entry Level

Patients Canada is a patient-led organization that fosters collaboration between patients, family caregivers and the provider community. Formed in 2011, Patients Canada is a young/small but formative organization that works toward greater patient and caregiver engagement within all areas of the healthcare system. At the core of our work is our shared experiences with healthcare, as we believe that stories can help illustrate systemic issues as well as what’s working within the healthcare system. By analyzing stories we can identify barriers to quality care and, in turn, develop strategies for improvement in service design, delivery of care, and policy development.

What you can expect

We offer you the opportunity to hit the ground running by helping us develop a fundraising plan for 2015. The plan will include activities that are suitable for our organization, capacity, and resources. You’ll consider ways to leverage our existing donor base with attention paid to what can be accomplished online and offline. Elements of this plan will include:

  • Apply your knowledge of fundraising strategies to determine an appropriate annual fundraising activity i.e., planned giving campaign, annual fundraising dinner, speakers event, etc.
  • Create a list of prospective funding opportunities with regard to grants, foundation. This should include deadlines, requirements, and other relevant information
  • Support the Manager of Communications in developing the website’s ‘Funding’ and ‘Donor’ webpages to ensure clear and effective communication with stakeholders
  • Critically asses how we currently frame giving both online and offline and provide suggestions for improvement i.e., how fundraising fits within our marketing efforts

Your internship should not exceed three months, though we are flexible. You will report on a day-today basis to the Manager of Communications and weekly to the interim Executive Director. You can expect a high level of independence, regular feedback in addition to predetermined evaluations, and access to colleagues and opportunities to develop yourself professionally. Administrative support will not exceed 15%.

We offer flexibility in setting the number of hours you will work each week, as well as where you will complete your work. We request that you work in our office located at Baycrest Hospital at least two days per week, and the rest of the time you’re welcome to use communal space at the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) where Patients Canada is a member. You’ll be requested to attend relevant meetings held throughout the week, most of which are held at CSI’s Annex location.

We offer an honorarium of $1,000 to be paid in two installments, midway through your practicum and at the end, and a TTC adult transit pass for the month of July. We can also provide a letter of reference upon successful completion of your practicum.
